T1W6 - The Circus came to School

Te Māhuri was so excited when people from the circus came to visit us on Thursday after lunch.  We could hardly wait until it was time to find our places out on the netball court so that the show could begin.  The show was a small taster of some of the acts we would be able to see at the Weber Bros Circus.  We learned some interesting facts about the acts at the circus, such as our Ringmaster being from South Africa and the funny clown being from Mexico.  At the end there was a chance to win tickets to the show for those that remembered all the interesting facts from the show ... Casey from Te Māhuri used his amazing memory powers to win a ticket - ka pai, well done!

Softball T1W5

In our softball lesson this week we played some fun games to help us learn all the names of the positions for the fielders on the softball field.  First Base, Centre Field and Short Stop are just a few of the new names we learned.  We tried our best to remember them all and find where they are on the field.  We also continued to practice throwing and catching with the big softball gloves.

Healthy Individual T1

We thought we would share our work in TM2 today as we're pretty proud of it! We were learning about how we can be Healthy Individuals while eating. We talked about some life hacks for food and watched a great video to give us some ideas, then we came up with our own. Have a look at our slides that we have created and shared below!

Robin Hood Show

We had a great time watching the show Robin Hood yesterday. We had the Hagley Players theatre group to perform and we were very lucky because it was very funny. We had to go in two groups and watched and listened to the actors.

We asked lots of questions about how the costumes were made and how long the set took to build. Did you know it only took them a couple of days but it was all hand painted? Wow!

Thank you Hagley Players!

Swimming Sports

What a busy day Monday was! We all had swimming sports on Monday afternoon and we were very lucky to have both year levels done before the sun disappeared!

We had lots of races in the Year 4-8 session as well as some star swimmers who came first doing whole lengths! Some of us were a bit nervous but everyone did so well. We are all very proud of ourselves.

The Year 1-3 session gave lots of great demonstrations of all the great things we have learned to do in the pool. We saw some people walking from one side to the other, some people using a noodle to help them float and even some superstars who were trying to swim with their float board.

Everyone gave it their best and celebrated our achievement and effort. Well done everyone!

Safety Truck Visit

Today we had the safety truck visit us. We got to learn about all the things that are important to keep ourselves safe on and off the road with trucks nearby :)

The truck was parked up on the field and we got to go in the cab and in the trailer so we could learn. We also got to have a turn blowing the horn. It was so loud!

Lots of us came back with truck magazines and we really enjoyed it.

Thank you for coming, Safety Truck!

Welcome back! We hope you have had a great summer break and have enjoyed the pool weather!

We're rocking right back in and are enjoying swimming and joining up to learn how we can continue to be YMS Heros in 2018.

We've had a great start to the week hearing about holiday trips, play dates with friends and learning our new routines!

Remember to get your sunhats and sunblock ready, along with your togs for swimming lessons with our SwimSafe Tutors next week!
